Join three Montana librarians for a one-hour free webinar featuring real-world examples of successful outreach. Amy Ling (North Valley Public Library), Marie Habener (Dillon Public Library) and Molly Ledermann (Missoula Public Library) will present the work they have done to sustain the momentum of WebJunction’s Spanish Language Outreach project, and discuss their ongoing strategies to assess community needs, make their libraries more welcoming, develop programming, and foster connections with Spanish-speaking communities. Montana librarians became involved with Spanish Language Outreach through participation in workshops in seven Montana communities. Since then, they have used the MTSLO blog to showcase those who continue to provide outreach activities, services and programs for Spanish Speakers in their communities. May 27, 1-2 pm Mountain Time: Hazardous Substances Data Bank, Haz-Map, and WISER (National Library of Medicine)

Hazardous Substances Data Bank, Haz-Map, and WISER. The National Network of Libraries of Medicine, MidContinental Region is presenting a new series of online classes. Once a month in 2009, liaisons will present information and exercises on various databases from the National Library of Medicine in an hour-long web conference. All classes are free and no registration is required. Also – Please make sure you have a Google account set up before we start. If you’re using any Google products (gmail, blogger, picasa, google docs, iGoogle, etc) then you already have an account – and we can definitely use that!

Workshop Sept. 9th 2008

Ready for the next workshop? We are! We’ll be getting together at the State Library in SLC on Sept. 9th 2008. During the day we’ll go over some minor changes to WP (we’ll be upgrading to the newest version of the software around that time!), and there will still be plenty of one-on-one design time. Mark your calendars!

Website in a Box at the MPLA / ULA Conference

Small libraries frequently face quite a challenge when it comes to getting their library represented on the Web. Lack of technical skills (and the time to develop them!), lack of funds, and lack of certainty of how to begin are common barriers for many librarians trying to create a web presence for their libraries and their community. In 2007, the Utah State Library teamed up with BCR in an attempt to find a sustainable solution to this problem for the state’s many small libraries. Join us to discuss our approach to this common dilemma, to take a peek at some of the websites that came out of the project, and to hear from some of the librarians involved.
